Zhongyuan Wang

Wang Zhongyuan, a professor and doctoral supervisor at the Computer School of Wuhan University and the National Engineering Research Center for Multimedia Software (NERCMS). He has long been engaged in research on multimedia information processing, surveillance video big data analysis, and identity computing. He has presided over three general projects and one key project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as one major technological innovation project of Hubei Province. He served as the deputy project leader of the National Major Science and Technology Project for a New Generation of Broadband Wireless Mobile Communication Networks. As the technical lead, the network cameras and video servers he developed received the CES Innovations Design and Engineering Awards and were recognized among the National Top Ten Innovative Security Products. He participated in the implementation of major engineering projects such as the Dongguan Safe City and Shenzhen Electronic Bus Monitoring. He contributed to the drafting of three Ministry of Public Security standards. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the mask-wearing face recognition technology he developed for personnel prevention and control garnered widespread attention from media outlets such as Hubei Daily, Global Times , and China Science and Technology News Network. He has published over 80 papers in internationally authoritative journals and top-tier international conferences (including five ESI hot/highly cited papers). As the first inventor, he has been granted more than 30 patents, among which three patented technologies have been adopted by China's national standard AVS (Audio Video coding Standard). He supervised graduate students to achieve the second place in the IEEE AIM 2019 international competition. He has received six scientific and technological awards from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Public Security, Hubei Province, and Guangdong Province.
